Party Eating Tips

As we are now in the swing of the holiday and party season for our family, I thought that I would like to share some tips that I received from my health insurance to help stave off the additional 5 to 10 pounds that many people gain from Thanksgiving and New Years. For us, party season starts a lot earlier because we have a ton of birthdays in the fall, starting in mid September, going all the way through late January. Some of the tip lists that I have read seem unrealistic, but I found most of these hints to be helpful. Especially since a healthy weight is helpful when dealing with infertility issues.

Tips for Eating at Parties
~Never go to a party hungry. You will most likely eat too much.
~Drink water and sugar-free drinks.
~Start with the fruits and vegetables first. These foods are high in fiber and will help make you full.
~Enjoy your favorite dishes, but control your portions. Make sure they fit on 1 small plate.
~Choose your favorite dessert and share it with a friend. Eating less will cut calories. Fruits, sorbets, and low-fat frozen yougurt are healthy choices that taste great.
~Don't stand near the buffet table. Talk with friends in a different room.
~Don't feel pressured to eat, eat and eat! Know how to say, "No thank you, I'm full."
~Keep active and burn some calories! Dance at parties, or go for an after meal walk with family and friends.

Reading through these, I believe that the saying of "No thank you, I"m full." is the most difficult for me. Not for me to actually say the words, but for people to actually listen and back off! Chris just laughs it off because after all of these years, when I say I'm full, I won't even take one more bite, no matter the pressure of coaxing!
