I have been pretty down lately, as you well know. I have been trying to keep my head up and focus on the positive. Something happened this week that hit me like a football tackle. What was it, you ask. Well, it was a football tackle.

My three nephews that are old enough play for one football team on the A, B, C teams. This weekend we were at the middle one's games when the oldest came over and said that his collar bone had been hurting since his game earlier. After a quick xray, he had broken his collar bone. The other side from the one that he broke when he was two. He is out of the games until play offs.

Then on Tuesday, I got a call from my brother Jarod, saying that he was at the hospital with his son. (My middle nephew). I knew that it wasn't too bad since my brother talks very fast in times of stress, and he was talking normally. He then went on to tell me that Jaiden had tackled in the wrong position and had broken his neck! C-2 to be exact. They were keeping him overnight and unsure if he would need surgery. Writing this, I see how horrible this sounds but at the time, Jarod was so calm that I didn't panic.

Seeing Jaiden, so little in that huge neck brace was scary. Having the doctor say that with only a fraction more, he would've been paralyzed. He even mentioned Christopher Reeve. Wow. Delayed panic for Auntie.

Now Jaiden is in a neck brace for 2 weeks. No sports until baseball in the spring. He is frustrated with the recovery and is too young to understand how blessed he is.

There are great things in my life right now. I need to open my eyes a bit more.
