Knitty ~ Need A New Uterus?

One of my friends sent me this link to write about for this blog. I think that one of the best qualities you need besides patience while experiencing infertility is to keep your sense of humor. Or to develop your sense of humor as the case may be. This link is laugh out loud funny. And thought provoking. What the heck is going on with those pictures?

MK Carroll created the patern for this uterus doll. And took the accompanying photos.
Human anatomy is pretty amazing, but not always pretty. My interest in anatomy coupled with the Blythe dolls phenomenon somehow combined in my imagination to produce a cute, cuddly uterus doll.

It's not completely anatomically accurate. I've taken a few liberties with the general shape and scale, as well as leaving out the ligaments connected to the ovaries. And, of course, the human uterus is not normally bubblegum pink.

Even some of the knitting instructions are funny. I have knit a pair of baby socks and a baby hat in my lifetime so I'm a total novice but kind of understand some of the lingo. You don't need any experience to appreciate these lines:
Push down gently on inner tube to make cervix look plump ("pouty", if you will).
Stuff body until it feels firm but cuddly.
Gently bend fallopian tubes forward into a curve, or however you wish to pose them.

This site did leave me with a couple of burning questions in my mind. She writes, "And, of course, the human uterus is not normally bubblegum pink." What color is my uterus on a normal day? If I did get a chance to pick the color of my uterus, what would it be? How about a pattern? Leopard print? Stripes? Plaid? Is my cervix plump and pouty? I guess I'll never know.

Ohhhhh. This is too funny!

Maybe our uteruses (uteri? What is the plural?) can change color like an octopus. That would be fun, although your leopard print is pretty darned snazzy!

Mine is a cammo in color which would explain as to why it has failed to be found by hubby's little swimmers.

Me again. I asked my husband what color a uterus is since he watched my c-section. He said it was just bloody. But he added that in cows, the uterus is purple. (He worked in a slaughterhouse as a teenager - ew, gross.) Thank me later for way too much information. I'll go away now.
