Gratitude Garland

In light of my last post, I think that I will write about this activity that I have been saving for an appropriate time. Today is the day.

My friend Wendy from www.writespirit.com forwarded me this sweet project last week. It would have been great for Thanksgiving as well, but I was a little behind on getting it out.

Remember those garlands that you made, or your kids made, in grade school? They were usually strips of red and green construction paper, linked together and then stapled to make an advent for Christmas. My nephews have brought home others that were representative of math concepts, but I don't remember exactly what they were.

This internet workshop expands on the garland idea as a visual gratitude journal. For each strip, you list what you are thankful for. And then as the garland grows you can see your blessings in front of you as a decoration. Here is how it got started:
I started my first Gratitude Garland when I wanted to be in a daily process of art journaling, but it felt like too much pressure, both in terms of time and artistic inspiration, to fill up an entire page or spread each day. I wanted to create a ritual that I could keep up with, and that I could enjoy. I had no idea that it would become a fantastically enriching way to cultivate a sense of gratitude and daily magic, through words and art. The process is simple but the results are sensational!

By utilizing the powerful combination of words and art, your creative expressions will instantly gain a significance that allows you to take your feelings of gratitude to new levels. You'll also be re-awakening your creativity and your playful sense of artful experimentation, as you work with the "ThanksClippings™" and the inspiring prompts sent every day via email.

Of course, you really don't need the class if you just use your imagination to structure the idea to your own set of wishes. The "thanksclippings" sound interesting though.

How cool is that?!? I have special plans going on for my tree this year, which I will write about when it's completed.
